Waddington’s Toronto Auctions: What You Need to Know
Several highlights from this auction were Claude A. Waddington’s Toronto auction, including this spirited work from the 2024 collection that attracted fervent bidding. It is a great example of the artist’s mastery of color and his exploration of the optical potential of juxtaposed colors.
Other notable lots included a Macintyre Moorcroft two-handled Landscape vase made for Townsend & Co, Newcastle-on-Tyne, c.1903-04, which far surpassed its pre-sale estimate. The auction also saw a rare three-drawer huanghuali coffer table, one of only two known examples in existence, which is valued for its exquisite design and the expensive huanghuali material that was used to make it.
A slew of other highlights include works by Hangama Amiri, Sara Angelucci, Anni Araujo Spadafora, Dean Baldwin Lew, Carole Conde, and Karl Beveridge. The sale also featured three works by Cornelius Krieghoff, all of which sold above their pre-sale estimates.
